Can irrelevant backlinks reverse the effects of your SEO?

by @cosminbanaurs (134), 10 months ago

Hello, I bought a domain for a nutrition website but the old owner of this domain had a website that talked about digital marketing, SEO google, etc. Now I have 264 backlinks with a great authority score between 48 - 72.

The problem is the backlinks are in the following categories: Business & Industrial, computer & Video Games, digital marketing... unrelated to my nutrition website. Now, what should I do?

Remove backlinks with google console because they can confuse google about my website niche?

Thank you very much for your help.

Links are the fuel for SEO. If the links are not spam, it will likely be ignored. Focus on creating content and getting good new links. If the links aren't spam, they shouldn't be your SEO problem.

As your niche is totally different from the previous one, the relevancy of the links also matters a lot. It is of no use to keep digital marketing backlinks for a nutrition site whatever may be their DA. I would suggest if possible disavow the toxic backlinks which are totally not related. Instead, focus more on building more good quality links through guest-posting. Use Postifluence to outreach the guest-posting sites and to get high authority do-follow links.

Google will not penalize your activity until your content isn't restricted and illegal and people don't report spam.
