Will Irrelevant or Not-closely-relevant Website Contents Hurt the SEO?

by @dnchcw (315), 10 months ago

Our main business is selling software to recover corrupt MS Word documents. Meanwhile, we also publish some Word-related articles, such as:

  1. How to export all images in a Word document.
  2. How to convert a Word table into an Excel table.

These articles are not very closely relevant to our main business. But they are ranking very high on some keywords and get a lot of traffic. While our main product is not ranking very well on the main keyword, neither does it get much traffic.

So, my question is:

  1. Whether the not-closely-relevant articles actually hurt the SEO of our main product?
  2. Should we simply remove the not-closely-relevant articles? Or put them on another domain and put some backlinks to our main product?

Thank you.

I think these articles are a way to show authority about the subject.

It's more about site structure. I would link from this articles to product pages, with in the text close to the link a explanation about the solution you offer with this product.

Probably to test, you can place this articles a level more down from the homepage? And no back links to these articles from home page or product pages (suppose you haven't). Only from other articles.

If your articles rank this well, write more about your products?

  1. Not so. Your those content is not hurting the SEO efforts of product sections.
  2. You can try to monetize your traffic by linking the product sections with relevant key phrases, putting banner images linked to product sections, etc.

in my opinion, the main thing is to combine it correctly. travel brogue can be easily combined with the initial niche, the main thing is that it looks natural, useful. It is necessary that your link does not just exist, but brings benefit

Thanks to all of you.

Then how about those contents that are completely unrelated to our product, such as chatgpt, AI. Should I move them to another site completely?

No @dnchcw, We do not write content for our products only. We write content for the audience of those products. You should keep the content on the same domain in such a case too.
