Wikipedia rel="me" profile links not working

by @RodneyUK (186), 4 months ago

In the settings of Wikipedia, you're permitted to list URLs which when used on your Wikipedia profile page, links will turn into rel="me" rather than rel="nofollow".

However despite adding URLs in this list and then going to my user page to add the links, the rel="me" attribute isn't used?

This is despite my checking of each url to make sure it is exactly the same.

Does anyone know a workaround for this? I'd rather use the rel="me" attribute as it'll signal greater authority in my author/publisher knowledge graph.

Citing from Microformats wiki rel="me" is used to indicate profile equivalence and for identity-consolidation

Means it should be same person's profile on another platform. They might have checks in place to enforce this so you can't link random links but it's limited to a set of websites like facebook, twitter, github etc.
