Here are the most common black hat SEO things Google penalizes for:

  • keyword stuffing
  • exchange and purchase of backlinks
  • automatic content generation
  • cloaking
  • fraudulent redirects
  • malware on the site
  • hidden content / link from users (visible only to robots) e.g. white font on a white background

@tomaskonovak serving fishy content to crawlers while having nothing on the site for real visitors seems to be pretty common blackhat practice that still works in G's marginal indexes like Slovakia.

In essence, black hat SEO is a practice that goes against search engine guidelines. It also uses unethical tactics. Common black hat techniques include cloaking, keyword stuffing, and the use of private link networks.
