Ranking difference ahrefs and google search console
Have someone the same problem, that the rakings on ahrefs and google search console are showing quite different results and trends?
If so, which source can we trust and use for reporting and optimising?
Rankings provided in the GSC are average positions. When the position row is clicked, it shows the ranking history.
Rankings provided in Ahrefs tool can be followed.
The ranking difference between Ahrefs and Google Search Console (GSC) can vary due to several factors:
Data Sources: Ahrefs and Google Search Console use different data sources to track rankings. Ahrefs primarily relies on its own web crawler to index and track website data, while Google Search Console provides data directly from Google's search index. This can lead to discrepancies in the rankings reported by each platform. Sampling and Accuracy: Google Search Console provides data directly from Google, so it can offer more accurate insights into how your website is performing in Google's search results. However, GSC data may be sampled, especially for larger websites, leading to potential inaccuracies in the reported rankings. Ahrefs, on the other hand, may provide more comprehensive data but might not always perfectly align with Google's rankings due to differences in algorithms and data collection methods. Metrics and Granularity: Ahrefs typically provides more granular data and a wider range of metrics than Google Search Console. While GSC focuses on basic metrics like clicks, impressions, and average position, Ahrefs offers additional metrics such as organic traffic estimates, keyword difficulty scores, and backlink data. This can result in differences in the rankings reported by each platform, as they may prioritize different metrics or calculate rankings differently. Updates and Delays: Ahrefs updates its database regularly, but there may still be a delay between changes in rankings and when they are reflected in the platform. Google Search Console also updates regularly but may have its own delays in reporting data. This means that rankings reported by each platform may not always be up-to-date or perfectly synchronized.
Perfect, thanks!
Due to different data collection methods, there are often discrepancies between Ahrefs and Google Search Console rankings. Google Search Console provides data directly from Google, making search performance metrics more reliable. However, Ahrefs offers additional insights such as backlink analysis. Both can be used for comprehensive reporting and optimization.
Gsc Just shows you orgnic google traffic and the other side ahrefs showing all traffic from socials etc
Ahrefs is a third-party tool known for its reliability, while Google Search Console (GSC) provides authentic, real-time data. I believe in the GSC results.
Ahrefs and Google Search Console (GSC) provide different ranking data due to their distinct methodologies. Ahrefs estimates rankings using its own database and algorithms, offering competitive insights and backlink analysis. GSC, directly from Google, provides precise ranking data specific to your site's performance on Google search results. Discrepancies arise because Ahrefs approximates based on available data, while GSC reflects actual user interactions and search engine indexing.
