Overdoing it for multilingual site?

by @dm (124), 3 weeks ago

I have a site with two languages. I'm trying to follow best practices to the fullest by:

1) Adding for English pages and for Spanish pages

2) Adding hreflang tags in each page. Example:

3) Defining the languages in the XML sitemap: domain/about

Am I overdoing it by applying all these practices on the same website? Would that cause any kind of problem, or this is actually better? Especially that I've seen articles recommended against using the hreflang on both the pages and XML sitemap together.

Either way can serve the purpose. Even both ways can be used to tell search engines about the multilingual pages. There is no harm in using both the methods simultaneously. At the same time, there is no extra benefits too.
