Help! Huge drop in coverage :(
Hi,
I really hope someone can help.
We have just noticed via Search Console that we have been having a huge drop in coverage with a funny pattern. The coverage passed from 350k valid pages to just 1.7k ones across 3 different moments in the space of just a week. Instead, the number of pages with errors did not change much, it has remained the same.
Would you have any idea of the reasons for it, please? Or what tests to run in order to understand?
Thanks, Corrado
Check your sitemap, how many URLs are mentioned in the file. You certainly can be helped, please do not worry.
Hello,
Thanks for your support. It says 977 Discovered URLs, Last read was yesterday.
Please be ensure that tag URLs and category URLs of posts are crawlable. In settings, check and fix these. It will be solved. If not then please let me know.
Keep smiling!
If I go to settings I can see: Ownership verification, associations, Change of address, crawl stats, indexing crawler.
I checked them but I could not find if tag URLs and category URLs of posts are crawlable. Where should I check, please?
I can see from crawl stats details that there are no particular issues, they are in green. The fail rate is considerate acceptable
Cheers,
You have to go to your website setting or ask your developer. The tags & category pages have been checked for a 'noindex'. Uncheck this box to index those pages and save the settings.
Thanks, I have been told that all our pages are set to index, follow.
And to give you more insights... The excluded ones increased during the same days. the type that increased is Crawled - currently not indexed
Are those URLs pages or posts? And, are those URLs in sitemap?
It may be due to the Google core update on 25th May 2022
@paddylameji I thought of it but it started on the 3rd of May do you think it could have been triggered in advance?
Didn't happen to me, but the latest Google update caused coverage drops for some people I know. 3rd of May however doesn't sound related to it.
Enter your website address and I'll try to help.
@corrado feel free to drop your URL. Just use code, not live anchor.
Thanks
