Does Schema SameAs Pass Authority in Similar Way to Backlinks?

In your opinions as fellow SEOs, would you say that the Schema SameAs
attribute can be considered just as good as a link from that site? In the context of author / founder types.
We all know that EEAT contributes to rankings in some form, either directly or indirectly. With people online suggesting that less emphasis is placed on actual backlinks now than before, could links in Schema be just as good as backlinks now?
- A site's Author or Publisher schema has a SameAs linking not just to that person's FB, LinkedIn etc, but to their Author page on another website.
- I may publish content from time to time on another site that isn't my own. It's common for blog contributions to have a bio of their poster in the article footer. Just like a link from there, i'm assuming a sameAs in the schema would be similar in terms of SEO authority gain, but via EEAT instead of link building
My use case goes a bit further than the typical bio/author profile links. I am creating a directory type website, where if a business adds their own website, this is added to the schema in the ProfilePage
graph. In this instance i'm guessing it is similar to a rel="me"
link
