Create free tool to attract inbound links

I want to create some free online tools to attract inbound links. However, the pages containing these tools will normally only have a button or edit box, not many texts. So it is easy for them to be taken as thin contents. How to prevent this?
There should be text content for a better user experience. If a user lands on the tool page then there must be an overview of the tool together with other information. If the visitor will see it useful then only move further and use the tool. This will search engines too. It too will know about the tool and show up in the SERPs.
Are you making the page for visitors og searchengines? Make it intuitive and with all the information needed to describe your tool. A better user experience the more links you will get. Just make sure you have internal links, so the linkjuice will flow.
