Can I De-Index?

by @richbar (123), 6 months ago

Hey guys,

I've taken over a website with around 1500 blog posts on it.

It's mostly utter rubbish (around 1200 of the posts are awful) but there are some really good articles that pre-google update were doing very well...

It's literally gone from around 100k organic sessions a month to 2k.

Luckily socials drives a LOT of traffic.

Anyway...

The 'utter rubbish' is obviously AI generated.

I want to basically start from scratch.

Delete the 1200 awful articles.

But I'm not a 'tech' guy.

So....

Can I simply just 'delete' the articles/blogs on Wordpress? Or do I need to somehow de-index them? or re-direct them once deleted?

I just want to pretty much start from scratch on this existing domain..

Use GSC >> Indexing >> Removals section to remove the pages from Google's cache even, after deleting those pages from the website.

Thank you for your help - so to confirm...

  1. I delete the posts from the back-end of my Wordpress Account
  2. I then manually remove them via GSC?
  3. What about re-directs? there's around 5000 backlinks to these pages

Given that there's going to be around 1200 of these pages I'd like to remove, is there any way I can do this quickly?

You mentioned, you want to do it from scratch. Redirection can bring both positive and negative things associated with the old content. You should take a decision here.

While removing URLs from the GSC it provides an option to choose remove all URLs which contain... This will be helpful.
