Best way to migratie 2 websites to a whole new domain

by @tonkebonke (112), 1 year ago

Hi all,

Our company (X.com) has been sold to another company(Y.com) Im in change of the website migration. Both websites have a lot visibility, traffic and strong positions in the SERPs. Normally this migration/redirect from our website/pages to the new website is easy. But....

In lets say a month or 6, this company will get a whole new name(Z.com). So this creates the following question: What is the smartest way to migrate without losing too much of the visibility, traffic and positions:

  1. Migrate both websites X.com and Y.com at the same time to the new one Z.com?
  2. First redirect and migrate our website/pages X.com to Y.com and after a couple of monts to Z.com ?

Like 1 big wave or 2 smaller waves. If you know what I mean.

In my opinion the safest option is 2 because you will not change anything on Y.com. So you are certain that this website stays intact and keeps its authority. It will only grow cause it gets new pages from X.com Then after the dust is settled you can then migrate everything to Z.com

Im curious about your opinion.

If it is compulsory to do so then option number two looks better to move forward. If possible then keep older domains and change the design, logo, etc. to personalize as per the new company.
