301 Redirect Question from an external website

by @jonduv (604), 6 days ago

Hi there,

If I were to remove a 301 redirect from another domain name that was directed to a URL on our site, would we lose additional value other than the backlink value itself? I merged a website and realized one of the URLS from the merged website might have some spammy links. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

You're losing link value, but that's obvious. If the redirected domain has spammy backlink profile, breaking the 301 connection will help. I am not sure what else could you potentially lose though?

As always, the best defense is strong backlink profile.

Hi @ms,

Thanks for the info. Do you know of a reasonably priced tool to manage backlinks? SEM Rush looks good, but we don't have the budget for it ($139 per month). I want to improve our backlink profile and make it as healthy as possible. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Honestly, I don't think you have too many options.

There are basically only two big ones - Semrush and Ahrefs (Semrush being the bigger one in data volume). And their tiers/pricing is similar.

Maybe I can help you get some data if interested.
